Team Camps
The following camps are designed to offer more of a team atmosphere for the participants. Large group instruction and demonstrations enable us to teach athletes how to work together, communicate and acquire knowledge of game like situations that you could not achieve without being part of a team. We play a lot of fun warm-up games where participants can win prizes and feel good about their successes as an improved volleyball player. Sheldon High School Volleyball program members act as counselors for the Grade School and Intermediate Camps. They attend the High School Camp. By having these players here to mentor campers we can offer adequate one-on-one feedback and encouragement. Furthermore, participants will take part in the goal setting activities that make Sheldon Volleyball successful. Everyday participants will write their goal on a post-it note and display it in the gym as a reminder of why they are here. Whether it is “To have fun,” “To meet new friends,” or to “Get an ACE!” reading all of our campers’ goals and watching them achieve them is my favorite part of coaching.
Grade School Camp July 12-15 8:30-11:00
Grade School Camp is designed specifically for athletes in 3rd through 5th grades. Over the five days of camp we follow an instructional progression from passing, to setting, hitting, and serving. On the last day of camp we divide up into teams and play. Participants receive multiple opportunities to utilize their newly learned skills as well as catch up on the ones that they already have.
Intermediate Camps July 12-15
Intermediate Camps are designed specifically for athletes in 6th through 9th grades. Over the five days of camp we follow an instructional progression from passing and serve receive, to setting, hitting, blocking, defense and serving. On the last day of camp we divide up into teams and play. Participants receive multiple opportunities to utilize their newly learned skills as well as catch up on the ones that they already have. Our goal with the last day is to ensure the best competition during each match. Camps are divided into two sub-categories so that proper instruction level and pace can be given to each participant. If you have questions concerning which camp is best suited for your athlete feel free to email.
ELITE CAMP 12:00-2:00pm
This camp is for advanced 6th-9th grade volleyball players who have mastery of ALL basic skills and knowledge of fast paced, aggressive game strategies. Athletes who participate in volleyball more often than the school seasons and who feel comfortable utilizing consistent volleyball technique are suitable for this fast paced camp. Participants will need to know proper hitting, setting, and passing technique as well as offensive and defensive concepts to succeed. We will work on developing dynamic technical concepts such as precision hit placement, mental strategies and concepts as well as offensive and defense systems.
IMPACT CAMP 2:00-4:00pm
This camp is for beginning to novice 6th-9th grade volleyball players who have an understanding for the basic skills associated with volleyball and a passion to learn more. The camp breaks down each technical skill and introduces concepts of rotations, offensive and defensive systems, and court awareness. Participants do not require any prior volleyball experience to be successful at this camp. Everyone can learn at their own paces and have fun along the way.
High School Camp August 16-19
8:30-11:00 & 12:00-3:00
High School Camp offers the ultimate form of instruction on teamwork, communication, and game strategies. Certainly, technical skills are covered, but a majority of the time is spent playing on teams of 6 or 7 fellow campers. Participants are given an opportunity to sign up for positions, but are then placed into teams that will change and be adjusted daily. The point of playing with so many different individuals is to learn game strategies from each other. It is difficult to play with someone you don’t know, but even more difficult to succeed. High School Camp covers just that. Breaking through barriers and facilitating communications; what can be said and what should be said on the court. Throughout camp individuals score points dependant on the games that they win. On the last day of camp the individuals with the most points are separated and become team captains of their final team. The entire last day is then a tournament of even teams according to overall point scores from the week.
Specialty Camps
Each specialty camp focuses on the specific skills associated with the camp. Specialty camps do not offer the same team atmosphere as the Team Camps, but provide detailed explanations, demonstrations and performance tips on one isolated concept of the game. These camps offer participants a lot of repetition as well as one-on-one feedback from coaches. Sessions are shorter so we have to get right to work, with no time to play warm-up games as in the Team camps. These camps are all business. Defense campers get a long sleeved shirt!
Session I July 19-21
Session I is for athletes in the 6th-8th grade, or beginning high school students. Each session provides instruction on the basic skills associated with the specific volleyball concept. Yes, many of these concepts are covered at Intermediate Camps, but not as detailed and specific as they are here. Each concept is broken down into step by step tutorials for better understanding, inside and out.
Session II July 26-28
Session II is for athletes who are incoming freshman through seniors in High School. Each session focuses on the mental aspects associated with each volleyball concept. Instruction is designed to “Add more tools to your toolbox” as a volleyball player. When players should use these tools and how to do so, effectively and efficiently, is also addressed. It is assumed that participants are already trained and consistent with the basic skills of volleyball when they attend this camp. If not, it is encouraged that they attend Session I prior to attending Session II, or attend our ELITE CAMP.
