Summer Camps

The following camps are designed to offer more of a team atmosphere for the participants. Large group instruction and demonstrations enable us to teach athletes how to work together, communicate and acquire knowledge of game like situations that you could not achieve without being part of a team. We play a lot of fun warm-up games where participants can win prizes and feel good about their successes as an improved volleyball player. Sheldon High School Volleyball program members act as counselors for the Grade School and Intermediate Camps. By having these players here to mentor campers we can offer adequate one-on-one feedback and encouragement. Furthermore, participants will take part in the goal setting activities that make Sheldon Volleyball successful. Everyday participants will write their goal on a post-it note and display it in the gym as a reminder of why they are here. Whether it is “To have fun,” “To meet new friends,” or to “Get an ACE!” reading all of our campers’ goals and watching them achieve them is my favorite part of coaching.

2011 Grade School Camp          July 11-14      8:30-11:00
Grade School Camp is designed specifically for athletes in 3rd through 5th grades. Grades K-2nd are welcome to join and will be separated onto a third court. Over the four days of camp we follow an instructional progression from passing, to setting, hitting, and serving, with game like drills and scrimmages mixed in every day. Participants receive multiple opportunities to utilize their newly learned skills as well as catch up on the ones that they already have. $40.00

2011 Intermediate Camps        July 11-14       12:00-3:00
Intermediate Camps are designed specifically for athletes in 6th through 8th grades. Over the four days of camp we follow an instructional progression from passing and serve receive, to setting, hitting, blocking, defense and serving. Players are put into team situations every day in order to apply strategies in a fast paced game situation. Participants receive multiple opportunities to utilize their newly learned skills as well as catch up on the ones that they already have. Our goal with the last day is to ensure the best competition during each match. Campers are divided into two sub-categories so that proper instruction level and pace can be given to each participant while they are all in the gym together. If you have questions concerning which camp is best suited for your athlete feel free to email. All 6th-8th graders will attend the same session this year.
$50.00

Specialty Camps

Each specialty camp focuses on the specific skills associated with the camp. Specialty camps do not offer the same team atmosphere as the Team Camps, but provide detailed explanations, demonstrations and performance tips on one isolated concept of the game. These camps offer participants a lot of repetition as well as one-on-one feedback from coaches. Sessions are shorter so we have to get right to work, with no time to play warm-up games as in the Team camps. These camps are all business. Defense campers get a long sleeved shirt!

2011 Session I                     July  18-21
Session I is for athletes in the 6th-8th grade, or beginning high school students. Each session provides instruction on the basic skills associated with the specific volleyball concept. Yes, many of these concepts are covered at Intermediate Camps, but not as detailed and specific as they are here. Each concept is broken down into step by step tutorials for better understanding, inside and out.

2011 Session II                   August 15-17
Session II is for athletes who are incoming freshman through seniors in High School. Each session focuses on the mental aspects associated with each volleyball concept. Instruction is designed to “Add more tools to your toolbox” as a volleyball player. When players should use these tools and how to do so, effectively and efficiently, is also addressed. It is assumed that participants are already trained and consistent with the basic skills of volleyball when they attend this camp. If not, it is encouraged that they attend Session I prior to attending Session II.

2011 GMS Team Camp              August 8-11
This is a camp that is for Sheldon Volleyball players ONLY. This is our TEAM CAMP which all 2011 members are expected to attend. Scholarships are available.

We have invited the Gold Medal Squared Coaching staff to come down and run a 4 day camp with our athletes. Their expert opinions, collegiate drills and intensive practice strategies will undoubtedly strengthen our program as a whole. For maximum benefit to our program it is imperative that all returners and invited freshman attend. Incoming freshman will be invited in June. The camp cost is expensive and to remedy that we are offering Sponsorships as well as Individual Fundraising Opportunities. Please visit the Fundraising link. A separate registration form will be provided to Sheldon Volleyball Players and invited freshman in the near future.
